Michael McCarthy

Michael McCarthy is the author of two biographies and several outdoors books. He has been a radio news reporter and editor, a freelance writer for several newspapers and magazines, an editorial columnist, and writer of travel literature. He is a regular travel columnist for Transitions Abroad Magazine (www.transitionsabroad.com), writing about "intentional travel."

As part of his journey throughout life, Michael was the creator of a unique publication called Spare Change, which gave a voice to homeless people across Canada. Michael’s work helping create positive changes in the community was profiled in hundreds of media reviews from coast to coast in Canada, and as far away as Great Britain and Japan.

Michael has written and produced a documentary film, Journey to Dolpo, about a 400-mile trek over the Himalayas with a Tiebtan lama to find and rescue destitute children.  He is writing a book of the same name.  He also is working in several other short documentaries.  He writes feature stories for a wide variety of magazines.

Michael’s main interest in travel writing is “journeys with purpose and meaning.” He is always on the look out for people making the world a better place. When not traveling, he currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada with his wife and son.
